Why FindBack was built and what we stand for
Every day in India, thousands of people lose something precious — mobiles, wallets, documents, and most painfully — their own loved ones. Yet there was no single dedicated platform where the lost and the found could meet.
FindBack is India's first dedicated lost & found platform — connecting technology, community and police together. We are not just an app — we are a civil movement.
We saw a clear gap — every day in India, thousands of items are lost and thousands of people go missing. Yet there was no single dedicated place where the person who lost and the person who found could connect. Police are stretched thin, existing platforms were never built for this, and ordinary people have no idea what to do. This gap is real — and we are trying to bridge it using technology and community.
Registered cases only — actual numbers Registered cases only — actual numbers are far higher
The problem is big — the solution is simple and free
When government systems are fragmented and recovery rate is just 53% — FindBack is the bridge that fills the gap. Community + Technology + Police — all three together.
Today we start with lost & found — this is just the beginning.

FindBack uses Manphikha, an AI assistant powered by Anthropic's Claude API, to help users with queries about lost and found items. When you chat with Manphikha: (a) your chat messages are sent to Anthropic, a third-party AI service provider, for processing and generating responses; (b) this data is used solely to respond to your queries within the app and is not used for advertising or sold to any party; (c) we do not send your identity documents, selfies, or verification data to the AI service — only the text you type in the chat. By using the Manphikha chat feature, you consent to this processing. If you do not wish your messages to be processed by a third-party AI, please do not use the chat feature. For more on Anthropic's data handling, visit anthropic.com/privacy.
We collect: name and email (registration); profile photo and ID (NGO/Police portal); post content, photos, location, contact details; and usage data via Google Analytics 4.
To operate FindBack, authenticate users, display posts, generate FIR drafts, detect fraud, improve the platform, and communicate service updates.
All data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Firestore) with industry-standard encryption. Here is exactly what is stored where:
posts. Stores item name, type, location, description, contact, photos (base64), timestamp, user UID.users. Stores name, email, profile photo URL, phone, registration date, provider (email/Google).messages. Anonymous messages between users about a post.reports. Fraud/abuse reports submitted by users.police_notifications. Auto-generated alerts sent to verified police/NGO users when a post is made in their district.ngo_users. Organization name, type, district, state, ID proof (pending admin approval).Firebase security rules restrict access: users can only read/write their own data. Police/NGO portal data is restricted to verified accounts only. Apart from AI chat processing described below, no data is stored on any third-party server other than Google Firebase (Google Cloud, India/Asia region).
AI Assistant (Manphikha): When you chat with Manphikha, your chat messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI service (via a secure proxy) solely to generate a response. Chat messages are not linked to your identity, are not sold, and are not used for advertising. Please do not share sensitive personal information such as passwords, Aadhaar numbers, or bank details in the chat.
FindBack does NOT sell your personal data. We share data only with law enforcement when legally required, authorized NGO/Police portal users (district-level only), and service providers (Firebase/Google) who help operate our platform.
